The First Car

So you are now finally old enough to get your driving licence and have saved enough (with your parent's help of course!) to buy your first car. So what should your criteria be?

The first recommendation is that you do not go for a new car. There is just too much risk that you are going to bang or scrape it while you are learning. Decent used cars ni will mean that you will not be too heart-broken the first time you bump it.

The second thing is to ensure that the car you choose is not too expensive to insure. The insurance premiums for new drivers can be horrendous, and although the model you end up with may not be the coolest or fastest model around, at least you will be able to afford to eat as well as paying the insurance premiums!

Next up is the petrol consumption. If you are starting university, there is going to be a fair amount of mileage racking up, so it is vital that you choose the most fuel efficient model around.

You also do not want to get too big a car – it really is tough in the first few months of driving, and the smaller the car the easier it will be to park.
